Making good predictions is the first step to becoming a successful reader. You can make a prediction when you use clues from the story, together with what you know from your own experiences, to figure out what will happen next.
For example: Dave woke up this morning with a sore throat and stuffy nose. My prediction is that he will probably stay home from school because he is not feeling well.
1) Pick a character from the book you are reading for Independent Reading.
2) Make a prediction about something you think is going to happen to that character by the end of the book.
3) Back up your prediction by citing specific examples from the book. These examples will help us determine if your prediction will come true.
4) Make a prediction about something that is going to happen in your own life. Use examples to back yourself up.
5) Read and comment on your classmates predictions.

Jas, I hope you get some great presents from your brother. I think it's wonderful that you two have such a close relationship. Keep up the great comments.
